Who knew that high-frequency sound could produce life-saving images?! In the sonography program at San Jac, you’ll learn all about this innovative technology — and so much more. Here’s everything you need to know about the application process.

Applying to the Program

Ready to get started on your path to becoming a sonographer? Students are admitted annually into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Due to limited clinical internship availability, students are admitted on a competitive basis. Follow the steps below to apply. Applications are accepted March 15 to May 15.

Get Accepted to San Jac

Before you can apply to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, you will need to apply and get accepted to San Jacinto College. Once that's done, follow the rest of the steps below.

Attend an Information Session

All students applying to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program are required to attend an information session before applying. In this session, you’ll learn everything you need to know about the program — and get access to a program application.

Gather Official Transcripts

Next, request official transcripts from all the schools you’ve attended — including San Jacinto College. You will need to submit these to San Jacinto College along with your program application.

Process Degree Evaluation

Head to t he Secure Online System (SOS). Here you will process and print your degree evaluation for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program AAS degree. Choose the catalog (school) year you are applying for. Include with your application.

Gather any National Certifications

If you have any national or state recognized certifications in a healthcare field, gather those and submit them with your program application.

Work History Form

If you have direct patient care work experience, submit your work history form. Please allow time for your former or current supervisor to sign. Include with your application.

Complete Your Prereqs

Complete the HESI A2 Exam

Required for all radiography and sonography students, the HESI A2 exam is a 4.5 -hour timed, computerized test that evaluates your readiness for the program. Be sure to read the HESI A2 instruction packet.

Apply

When you’ve completed the above steps you’re ready to apply to the sonography program! Check out the handy application checklist. You’ll be notified within two to three weeks after the application deadline.
